This is an illustration I did for Hayden's Ferry Review in Arizona. I had the distinct privilege to illustrate one of Norman Dubie's poems. Dubie begins the poem by talking about Decatur Illinois in winter, and later mentions how a schoolhouse full of children were killed in a shelling along the Gaza Strip. A white spotted mouse was killed too. Dubie ends the poem by saying that the sun setting in Decatur Illinois "didn't give a shit...it didn't even falter". It was a powerful comment on the United States' awareness of international affairs.
